Getting to Know Stella, Part 2
As expected, I've been ironing out the wrinkles of my new computer. The iron is hot, but the fabric is stubborn.
Nothing was resolved on Monday because Bob was out and no one else I asked had any good ideas about what was wrong and how to fix it. I searched through Linux websites and several internal logs to find a reason why the shell was crashing, but with no luck.
Bob installed a new 3D graphics card on Stella yesterday, which locked me out of the computer for most of the day. He was able to prevent the program from closing the window and/or logging me out by telling the script to run one line at a time. This is just a band-aid for the real problem, but it's a band-aid that works, so I'm not going to worry about it further.
After I reinstalled the calibration database (CALDB), the processing script ran successfully. The barycenter correcting program (barycorr) ran without error. I'm half way there.
I'm currently attempting to determine if IDL is installed, and if it is, why it won't run when I call it. I believe it has not yet been installed, because I can't find it anywhere. I'm also trying to figure out what's wrong with my Thunderbird settings that's disallowing me from sending out emails.
No denying it – Stella is a fast machine! I'll be able to catch up with work in no time once I have everything working properly.
