Full HD / Looking Ahead Toward the Moon
I knew it would happened eventually, and I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner: I ran out of space on the hard drive I was using. I decided to free up space by deleting all of the raw data, since the processed data is what I really care about, and it's easy to re-download the raw data from the archive if I need to in the future. That brought me from 100% full to 71% full, so it's clear this is only a temporary fix. There are a few other partially-used hard drives on Everin (my desktop). Right now I'm using two of Everin's hard drives (raw and processed data on one, my analysis on another), but I may need to branch out and take over others.
I've caught up with the two bursts that occurred while I was too busy or gone. GRB 070318 has a nice flare in the light curve. I saw nothing out of the ordinary in the preliminary analysis, but I do want to look at it closer.
I attended a talk this afternoon by Pete Worden, the Center Director of Ames, on the future of science (specifically astronomy) on the Moon. This is a somewhat controversial topic I hadn't really thought much of before, but I am interested in learning more about the reasons for and against creating observatories (of any energy band) on the lunar surface once humans are more established there.
