SPS Zone Meeting / THEMIS Launch
The SPS Zone Meeting was a success! The poster session seemed to run a bit short, but I did get some good questions and advice from faculty members. I need to determine which frequency ranges my data are useful on my power density spectrum plot. What looks like a candidate for a variability may turn out to be nothing (which I assumed from the beginning, but was told to check anyway).
Since I've been back, I've gone through the two latest GRBs. 070219 was a bit of a dud, but 070220 was nice and bright. Still no definitive discoveries in the timing study.
I've also learned about pile-up, the problem that occurs when two or more photons hit the same region on the detector at around the same time, so the detector thinks they were only one photon of higher energy. I haven't been correcting for pile-up, but I really should go back and make sure that's not affecting my analyses.
In an attempt to broaden the scope of this blog, I present the THEMIS Delta II rocket launch on Saturday, February 17, as seen from where I was on Melbourne Beach, Florida.
