A Vision for the Future of this Blog
I'm toying with the idea of expanding this site. I believe I can take it in two directions.
Primarily, I would love this to be a place where teenagers and young adults can go to get information on how they can get involved in the space program, learn to be a scientist, or find a path to following their dreams. I've read a lot these past months on how our culture's youth is apathetic toward NASA and space exploration. They are ignorant of what's going on and don't care to find out. The main-stream media is of little help, presenting very little information, too often incorrect, or focusing only on the negative. I was reading a NASA communications presentation which mentioned the idea of using technology such as websites, podcasts, online videos, online social communities, and even blogs as a way to spread awareness.
One-on-one outreach is the more effect means of communicating with an individual, but presenting information to the online masses seems to be the best way of communicating with the global community. Around ten years ago, when I was beginning to form ideas of what I wanted to do when I "grew up," I would have loved to be able to use a search engine to find a website written by a young scientist who was pursuing a career similar to what I had in mind. Even better would be having the ability to contact the author of such a website to ask questions. If I can help even just one person learn something that helps them get to where they want to go, it would be worth it.
On the other side of my vision, I would like to promote my research and open myself up on a more professional level. I don't think anyone in the astrophysics/space science community reads this blog, but someday they might. I'd like a place to showcase what I've done, what I'm doing, and where I hope to go.
I'm not looking for publicity. I'm looking to spread information. I want to help NASA and the scientific community by communicating NASA's vision and the joys of scientific research and discovery. I want to help high schoolers and others who have not yet found their way, either by simply giving them something to talk about amongst friends, or showing them that they can follow their dreams, no matter how distant the road may seem. I want to help professionals get to know me and my work better. I want to thank everyone who has encouraged me and gotten me this far by doing what I can in service to others.
Stay tuned for changes.
