FAS Meeting & Presentation

Today was quite an experience. I arrived on campus a bit before 7:00 to help set up at the registration desk for the 70th annual meeting of the Florida Academy of Sciences. The Physics and Space Sciences session started at 9:00. I was surprised to see mostly Florida Tech students and a few Florida Tech professors with very few outsiders, but maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised since all the talks were by Florida Tech affiliates.

I spoke at 11:30 in front of an audience of 17. Everything was going just fine until I clicked on a linked animation of two neutron stars merging and the entire computer froze. I kept talking as someone restarted the computer for me, but I was so flustered afterwards I’m not sure what I said. I remember that I was asked some questions I couldn’t answer, and then it was over. It wasn’t terrible, but it could have gone better.

I’m going to enjoy the rest of my Spring Break, but next week I need to start planning semester wrap-up of research – less than two months until graduation! What do I want to accomplish before May?
